Introduction

Britain has developed their own distinct forms of cooking. Often their most common traditional meals will be simple and easy to make. Pork and batter are often ingredients in their savoury dishes. Let us now review some of the most popular forms of British cuisine.

Types of British Cuisine

  • Full English Breakfast

Bacon, grilled tomatoes, sausages, eggs, mushrooms, toast. This is one of the most delicious British meals ever invented. It may be bad for your health but then all enjoyable things are. There are several variations to this mouth watering dish. Whichever one you order you are unlikely to be disappointed.

  • Bangers and Mash

A very simple meal to make. It is simply mashed potato and sausages (bangers). It is usually topped with gravy. Some may find the low-key simplicity of the taste bland. It focuses mainly on the taste if the sausage and onion gravy.

  • Shepherd’s Pie

Not to be confused with Cottage Pie. The main difference between the two is that Shepherd’s Pie is lamb based whereas Cottage Pie replaces it with beef. Either way they are both topped with delicious mashed potato. This is by far one of the greatest British dishes ever invented. It is simply a real treat.

  • Toad in the Hole

This is simply sausages coated in batter. The meal might not be enjoyable at all if you are sensitive. Despite this it still remains popular with British people as a guilty pleasure.

  • Trifle

This is a British invented dessert that contains a sponge cake covered with jelly, fruit and cream. The layered nature of the dish means that if you do not like part of it you can simply leave it. It is a bizarre yet very popular sweet meal that is slowly dwindling out of favour as newer, more exciting desserts replace it.
